SLC25A20 is a mitochondrial membrane carrier protein that transports acylcarnitines into the mitochondrial matrix for oxidation via the fatty acid oxidation pathway.
Mutations in this gene are linked to carnitine-acylcarnitine translocase deficiency, which can result in hypoglycemia, cardiac arrest, hepatomegaly, hepatic dysfunction, and muscle weakness, and is often lethal in newborns and infants.
