The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
In mice, the agouti gene encodes a paracrine signaling molecule that causes hair follicle melanocytes to synthesize pheomelanin, a yellow pigment, instead of eumelanin (black/brown pigment). Constitutive expression of the mouse gene can lead to adult-onset obesity, increased tumor susceptibility, and premature infertility.
This human gene encodes a secreted protein that may:
- Affect hair pigmentation quality
- Act as a pharmacological antagonist of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone
- Play a role in neuroendocrine aspects of melanocortin action
- Regulate lipid metabolism in adipocytes
