Ras 유전자는 Ras 종양유전자 패밀리에 속하며, 포유류의 사르코마 레트로바이러스의 변형 유전자와 관련이 있습니다.
이 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 신호 전달 경로에서 작용하며, GTP 및 GDP 결합 능력과 고유한 GTPase 활성을 가집니다.
이 단백질은 탈팔미토일화 및 재팔미토일화 주기를 거치며, 이를 통해 세포막과 골지체막 사이의 빠른 교환이 조절됩니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 Costello 증후군을 유발하며, 이는 태아기 성장 증가, 출생 후 성장 저하, 종양 형성 소인, 정신 지체, 피부 및 근골격 이상, 특이한 얼굴 형태, 심혈관 이상 등을 특징으로 합니다.
