Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte) 및 일부 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포(satellite cells)와 비수초성 슈반세포(non-myelinating Schwann cells)에서도 발현되며, 신경줄기세포 또한 GFAP을 강하게 발현합니다.
GFAP 항체는 성상세포의 표지(marker)로 널리 사용되며, 다양한 뇌종양에서도 높은 발현을 보입니다. 또한 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정 중 다른 교세포(glial cells)와 성상세포를 구분하는 표지로 활용됩니다.
GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 드문 신경계 질환인 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 이소폼을 생성할 수 있습니다.
