Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포(satellite cell), 비수초화 슈반세포(non-myelinating Schwann cell)에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포(neural stem cell)에서도 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양(astrocytic cell 유래)에서도 강하게 발현됩니다.
GFAP는 수정체 상피(lens epithelium), 간의 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양의 일부 세포, 적혈구 등에서도 발견된 바 있습니다. 이 단백질은 발달 과정 중 astrocyte와 다른 교세포(glial cell)를 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 중추신경계 질환)를 유발할 수 있으며, 대체 스플라이싱에 의해 여러 아이소폼이 생성됩니다.
