Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 교세포에 특이적으로 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포 역시 GFAP을 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 성상세포 표지(marker)로 널리 사용됩니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타나며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정 중 성상세포를 다른 교세포와 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 돌연변이는 알렉산더병(Alexander disease)을 유발하며, 이는 중추신경계 성상세포의 희귀 질환입니다. GFAP 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 이소폼을 생성합니다.
