Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 성상교세포 및 일부 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 유용하며, 여러 종류의 뇌종양(astrocytic cell 유래)에서도 GFAP가 강하게 발현됩니다. GFAP는 수정체 상피, 간의 쿠퍼세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte와 다른 glial cell을 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 희귀한 중추신경계 질환인 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 다양한 isoform을 생성합니다.
