Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 neural stem cell에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell 마커로 유용하며, 여러 종류의 뇌종양 및 기타 조직에서도 발현됩니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 마커로 활용되며, GFAP 유전자의 변이는 Alexander disease를 유발합니다. GFAP 유전자는 alternative splicing을 통해 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
