Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family proteins are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix during physiological processes such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in pathological conditions like arthritis and metastasis.
MMP14 belongs to the membrane-type MMP (MT-MMP) subfamily, characterized by a transmembrane domain suggesting cell surface expression. MMP14 activates MMP2 protein, which may play a role in tumor invasion.
