MA1-06110 detects alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SM1) in human, rat, goat, porcine, non-human primate, quail, ovine, xenopus, monkey, and chicken samples.
The recognized epitope is highly conserved, allowing cross-reactivity with protochordates and lower craniates.
Validated for immunocytochemistry, immunomicroscopy, immunohistochemistry, and Western blotting.
Specifically recognizes the epitope Ac-EEED on alpha-smooth muscle actin.
Target Information
Smooth Muscle Actin is part of the actin protein family, essential for cell motility, structure, and integrity.
Alpha actin is a key component of the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins regulate cell movement.
Smooth muscle actin is found in vessel walls, gut wall, myometrium, and myoepithelial cells.
Defects in its gene are linked to familial thoracic aortic aneurysm type 6.
It appears in fibroblast stress fibers during wound healing and fibrocontractive conditions.
Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist.
