Target Information
Voltage-dependent calcium channels are essential for neurotransmitter release. L-type calcium channels consist of four subunits (α1, β, γ, α2δ).
The gamma subunit (CACNG1) is a 222 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein of the PMP-22/EMP/MP20 family, expressed in skeletal muscle.
It is part of the dihydropyridine-sensitive calcium channel and may play a role in excitation-contraction coupling.
CACNG1 is considered a novel marker for malignant hyperthermia susceptibility (MHS), a life-threatening hypermetabolic disorder triggered by certain anesthetics.
