Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- For formalin-fixed tissues: Heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
The S100A8/A9 heterocomplex, also known as MRP-8/MRP-14 complex or calprotectin, constitutes about 60% of the cytoplasmic protein fraction of circulating polymorphonuclear granulocytes and is also present in monocytes, macrophages, and ileal tissue eosinophils. Peripheral blood monocytes carry the antigen extra- and intracellularly, while neutrophils only intracellularly.
This complex exhibits antibacterial, antifungal, immunomodulating, and antiproliferative effects and acts as a potent chemotactic factor for neutrophils. Plasma concentrations are elevated in diseases associated with increased neutrophil activity, such as inflammatory bowel disease. Calprotectin is detectable in feces and other body fluids (plasma, saliva, gingival crevicular fluid, stools, synovial fluid) during infection and inflammatory conditions.
