Target Information
NMDAR1 encodes a protein that is a critical subunit of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, members of the glutamate receptor channel superfamily. These receptors are heteromeric protein complexes forming ligand-gated ion channels. NMDAR1 subunits play a key role in synaptic plasticity, which underlies memory and learning. Expression of different isoforms may contribute to functional diversity, and alternatively spliced variants have been described.
