Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)는 EGF 수용체(EGFR)에 결합하여 다양한 세포 신호 경로를 활성화시키는 단백질입니다. EGFR은 170 kDa 단백질 키나아제로, EGF 결합 시 동종 또는 이종 이합체를 형성하여 여러 신호전달 경로를 개시합니다.
EGF는 신장, 뇌, 전립선, 타액선 등에서 널리 발현되며, 세포 증식에 강력한 영향을 미칩니다.
활성화된 수용체는 GRB2 등의 어댑터 단백질을 모집하여 RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK, PI3K-AKT, PLCγ-PKC, STAT 등 주요 신호경로를 매개합니다.
NF-κB 신호 경로 활성화에도 관여할 수 있으며, EGF 유전자 결함은 저마그네슘혈증 4형과 특정 암의 발병 및 진행과 관련이 있습니다.
