This antibody detects endogenous levels of PER2 only when phosphorylated at Ser662.
Target Information
PER2 (Period circadian protein homolog 2) is a mainly nuclear protein involved in the regulation of circadian rhythms. It belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors and contains a PAC (PAS-associated C-terminal) domain and two PAS (PER-ARNT-SIM) domains.
PER2 interacts with other circadian oscillator proteins such as CRY, CLOCK/NPAS2, BMAL1/BMAL2, CSNK1D/CSNK1E, TIMELESS, and other PER proteins. This interaction is essential for generating circadian rhythms and maintaining the circadian transcriptional feedback loop.
PER2 is strongly expressed in skeletal muscle and pancreas, with weaker expression in the lung. Mutations in PER2 are associated with familial advanced sleep-phase syndrome (FASPS).
