This antibody detects endogenous levels of PER1 only when phosphorylated at Ser704.
Target Information
Circadian rhythmicity is a fundamental property across diverse organisms including animals, plants, and fungi. Endogenous biological clocks are regulated at the genetic level through a protein-mediated autoregulatory feedback loop. In mammals, several genes encoding members of the bHLH-PAS (PER-ARNT-SIM) transcription factor family play a key role in circadian oscillations. CLOCK-induced gene transactivation occurs via an E-box enhancer (CACGTG) upstream of target genes. CLOCK-ARNT3 heterodimers bind to E-box elements to stimulate transcription. CLOCK transactivates the mammalian homolog of Drosophila per. PER, together with the mammalian timeless (TIM) gene product, negatively regulates its own transcription by inhibiting the CLOCK-BMAL1 transactivation complex.
