Target Information
MC1R (Melanocortin Receptor) mediates the effects of melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).
MSH and MC1R are key regulators of melanogenesis, controlling the ratio of red pheomelanin to black eumelanin in skin pigmentation.
Non-functional or truncated receptors lead to lighter coat color, while constitutively active receptors result in darker pigmentation.
