Target Information
MRAP2 acts as a modulator of melanocortin receptor 4 (MC4R), which is involved in energy homeostasis. It plays a central role in controlling energy balance and body weight by increasing ligand sensitivity of MC4R and MC4R-mediated cAMP generation. MRAP2 may also act as a negative regulator of MC2R by competing with MRAP for binding and impairing corticotropin (ACTH) binding. It may regulate activity of other melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, and MC5R), though further in vivo evidence is required.
