Target Information
MRAP2 is a modulator of melanocortin receptor 4 (MC4R), which is involved in energy homeostasis. It plays a central role in the control of body weight regulation by increasing ligand sensitivity of MC4R and MC4R-mediated cAMP generation. MRAP2 may also act as a negative regulator of MC2R by competing with MRAP for MC2R binding and impairing ACTH binding. It may regulate other melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC5R), although further in vivo evidence is required.
