Product Specific Information
Antibody detects endogenous levels of Acetyl‑α‑Tubulin only when acetylated at Lys40.
Target Information
Microtubules are intracellular dynamic polymers composed of conserved α/β‑tubulin heterodimers and associated proteins (MAPs). They exhibit intrinsic polarity, with dynamic plus ends and less dynamic minus ends, and are essential for processes such as mitosis, meiosis, cell shape maintenance, and intracellular transport.
Microtubules also enable cell motility via flagella and cilia. In mammalian cells, minus ends are anchored in microtubule organizing centers (MTOCs). Tubulin polymerization requires GTP and is reversible, leading to dynamic instability where microtubules grow and shorten at their ends.
α‑Tubulin (~50 kDa) exists as part of soluble α/β‑tubulin dimers or polymerized microtubules, encoded by multiple genes forming tubulin classes (six in humans).
