Target Information
DRP1 (Dynamin-related protein 1) is a human mitochondrial GTPase that mediates mitochondrial division in mammalian cells. It plays a crucial role in maintaining mitochondrial fission during steady state and apoptosis. DRP1 is essential for proper mitochondrial distribution; in mutant neurons, mitochondria are largely absent from synapses, providing a tool to study mitochondrial roles in neuronal function.
