Product Specific Information
- A 1:1,000 dilution of MA5-45844 detects alpha-synuclein in 15 µg of human brain cell lysate by ECL immunoblot using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody.
- Binds within the 101–140 aa region of human alpha-synuclein (confirmed by WB and ELISA).
- Detects ~14 kDa band corresponding to full-length alpha-synuclein.
- Does not detect truncated alpha-synuclein (aa 1–114).
Target Information
Alpha-synuclein is a neuronal protein belonging to the synuclein family (alpha, beta, gamma). It regulates synaptic transmission and membrane trafficking. Alpha- and beta-synuclein selectively inhibit phospholipase D2, suggesting roles in signaling pathways.
Mutations in the SNCA gene (encoding alpha-synuclein) are linked to Parkinson’s disease. Alpha-synuclein aggregates are major components of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease. Multiple alternatively spliced isoforms exist.
Associated diseases include Parkinson Disease 1 (Autosomal Dominant) and Lewy Body Dementia.
