Product Specific Information
- 1:1,000 dilution of MA5-45843 detects Alpha Synuclein in 15 µg of human brain cell lysate by ECL immunoblot using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody.
- Binds within the 101–140 aa region of human alpha synuclein (determined by WB and ELISA).
- Detects approximately 14 kDa band corresponding to Alpha Synuclein.
- Does not detect truncated alpha Synuclein (aa 1–114).
Target Information
Alpha-synuclein is a member of the synuclein family, including beta- and gamma-synuclein. These proteins are abundant in the brain and regulate synaptic transmission and membrane trafficking. Alpha- and beta-synuclein inhibit phospholipase D2, suggesting involvement in signaling pathways.
Mutations in the SNCA gene (encoding alpha-synuclein) are linked to Parkinson’s disease. Alpha-synuclein peptides are major components of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different isoforms have been identified.
Associated diseases include Parkinson Disease 1 (Autosomal Dominant) and Dementia with Lewy Bodies.
