Product Specific Information

Epitope sequence: EQKLISEEDL, located in amino acids 410–419 of human c-Myc protein.

Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a crucial role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.

Phosphorylation of c-Myc at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as glycogen synthase kinase 3, cyclin-dependent kinase, ERK2, and JNK has been associated with regulation of cell proliferation and cycle control. c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development.

The c-Myc oncogene (p62 c-Myc) regulates normal cellular proliferation and differentiation. Deregulated expression can induce apoptosis in multiple cell types. Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags at amino- or carboxy-termini of target proteins.

c-Myc-, N-Myc-, and L-Myc-encoded proteins function in proliferation, differentiation, and neoplastic transformation. Amplification of the c-Myc gene has been observed in human tumors such as lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, while N-Myc amplification occurs in neuroblastomas. Translocation of the c-Myc locus on chromosome 8 to immunoglobulin loci on chromosomes 14, 2, or 22 is characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders.

Aberrant expression of c-Myc has been reported in tumors from various origins, including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, pulmonary, prostatic, thyroid, nasopharyngeal, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
