Product Specific Information

Epitope sequence: EQKLISEEDL, located in aa 410–419 of human c-Myc protein.

Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a crucial role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.

Phosphorylation of c-Myc at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is associated with cell proliferation and regulation. c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development.

Deregulated expression of c-Myc induces apoptosis and contributes to oncogenesis in multiple tissues including lung, breast, colon, gastric, hepatic, ovarian, and hematopoietic systems. Amplification or translocation of the c-Myc gene is observed in cancers such as Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders.

Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing the Myc epitope tag fused to either amino- or carboxy-termini of target proteins.
