Product Specific Information

Epitope sequence: EQKLISEEDL, located in aa 410–419 of human c-Myc protein.

Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is frequently activated in various tumor cells and plays a key role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.

Phosphorylation of c-Myc at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as glycogen synthase kinase 3, cyclin-dependent kinase, ERK2, and JNK has been linked to cell proliferation and regulation. c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development.

The c-myc oncogene (p62 c-myc) regulates normal cell proliferation and differentiation. Deregulated expression can induce apoptosis in multiple cell types. Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags fused to target proteins.

Amplification of the c-Myc gene has been observed in human tumors, including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, while N-Myc amplification is associated with neuroblastomas. Translocation of the c-Myc locus on chromosome 8 to immunoglobulin loci on chromosomes 14, 2, or 22 is characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell proliferative disorders. Aberrant c-Myc expression is found in diverse tumors such as colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
