Target Information

p27 Kip1 functions as a negative regulator of G1 phase progression and is proposed to mediate TGFβ-induced G1 arrest. It is a key regulator of cell cycle progression, acting as a potent inhibitor of cyclin E- and cyclin A-CDK2 complexes.
p27 Kip1 also forms complexes with cyclin D-CDK4, contributing to the assembly, stability, and modulation of CCND1-CDK4 activation. Its function as an inhibitor or activator depends on phosphorylation state and stoichiometry.
This 27 kDa protein undergoes CDK-dependent phosphorylation and ubiquitination by SCF complexes, a process essential for the transition from quiescence to proliferation.
