Target Information
MKK6 (MEK6, MAP2K6) is a member of the dual specificity protein kinase family, functioning as a mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase kinase. MAP kinases act as integration points for multiple biochemical signals. MKK6 phosphorylates and activates p38 MAP kinase in response to inflammatory cytokines or environmental stress.
As a key component of the p38 MAP kinase-mediated signaling pathway, MKK6 is involved in stress-induced cell cycle arrest, transcription activation, and apoptosis.
Tissue specificity: Isoform 2 is expressed only in skeletal muscle, while Isoform 1 is found in skeletal muscle, heart, and to a lesser extent in liver or pancreas.
