This antibody binds human CD28, which is found on a sub-population of T cells and activated B cells. The antibody does not react with B cells, granulocytes or monocytes. CD28 is involved in T-cell activation, induction of cell proliferation, cytokine production, and promotion of T-cell survival.

Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein. It is a cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin superfamily, constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 acts as a critical T cell co-stimulatory receptor by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells, providing the second activation signal necessary for T-cell activation. It also prevents T cells from entering an anergic or apoptotic state. In mice, CD28 is expressed on all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in peripheral lymphoid organs and blood, with expression levels varying during thymocyte maturation. Dysregulation of CD28 is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
