Target Information
The Myogenic determination gene (MyoD) was first identified by its ability to convert embryonic mouse fibroblast cells into muscle cells. Forced expression of the MyoD gene (human homolog: myf3) can induce muscle-specific gene activation in various cell types. The regulatory domain of MyoD includes a 70 amino acid region containing a basic DNA-binding motif and a helix-loop-helix (HLH) dimerization motif. Related genes with homology to this domain include myf5, myogenin (myf4), and myf6 (MRF4, herculin).
