Target Information

ERK1 and ERK2 are widely expressed and are involved in the regulation of meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells.
Various stimuli, including growth factors, cytokines, virus infection, ligands for G protein-coupled receptors, and transforming agents, activate the ERK1/2 pathways.
Upon receptor tyrosine kinase activation, Ras interacts with Raf, which phosphorylates MEK1/2. MEK1/2 subsequently phosphorylates ERK1/2 on tyrosine/threonine residues.
Activated ERKs phosphorylate cytoplasmic targets or translocate to the nucleus to activate transcription factors such as c-Fos and Elk-1.
