Target Information
ERK1 and ERK2 are widely expressed and involved in the regulation of meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells. Various stimuli, including growth factors, cytokines, virus infection, G protein-coupled receptor ligands, and transforming agents, activate the ERK1/2 pathways. Upon receptor tyrosine kinase activation, Ras activates Raf, which phosphorylates MEK1/2, leading to phosphorylation of ERK1/2. Activated ERKs phosphorylate cytoplasmic targets or translocate to the nucleus to activate transcription factors such as c-Fos and Elk-1.
