Target Information
Enolase (2-phosphoglycerate hydrolyase or phosphopyruvate hydrates) is a glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. It consists of three subunits: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Non-neuronal Enolase (ENO1) is an isoform composed of two alpha subunits. The ENO1 gene also encodes tau-crystallin, a monomeric structural lens protein.
Biological Roles:
- Involved in glycolysis and energy metabolism
- Participates in growth control, hypoxia tolerance, and allergic responses
- Functions as a plasminogen receptor and activator on cell surfaces
- Used as a diagnostic marker for tumors, hypoxic brain injury, and endometriosis
- Identified as an autoantigen in Hashimoto encephalopathy (HE) and associated with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT)
