The NFkB p52 protein is a subunit of the nuclear factor-kappa-B (NFkB) transcription factor complex, which regulates genes involved in inflammation and immune responses.
The full-length p100 protein is co-translationally processed into the active p52 form.
Chromosomal rearrangements and translocations of this gene locus have been associated with B cell lymphomas, potentially forming fusion proteins.
There is a pseudogene on chromosome 18, and alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
