Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of the CD9 antigen, a 24 kDa transmembrane protein expressed on platelets, monocytes, pre-B lymphocytes, granulocytes, and activated T lymphocytes.
Target Information
CD9 antigen is a glycoprotein expressed on developing B lymphocytes, platelets, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils, stimulated T lymphocytes, neurons, and glial cells. It belongs to the tetraspanin family, which crosses the membrane four times.
In pre-B cells and platelets, CD9 regulates activation and aggregation, possibly via integrin CD41/CD61 association.
CD9 is involved in multiple cellular processes such as motility, osteoclastogenesis, neurite outgrowth, myotube formation, sperm-egg fusion, attachment, and proliferation. It is essential for MHC II molecule association on dendritic cells, aiding T cell stimulation.
CD9 expression plays a significant role in suppressing cancer cell motility and metastasis and is considered a metastasis suppressor in solid tumors.
