This antibody detects the antigen both in the presence and absence (samples containing EDTA) of Ca²⁺.
Target Information
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a major cyclic, pentameric acute-phase protein composed of five identical, noncovalently bound, nonglycosylated subunits. Each subunit consists of 206 amino acids with a molecular weight of approximately 24 kDa.
CRP is produced by the liver, and its plasma concentration increases markedly during inflammatory processes. It initiates the classical complement cascade, binds to nuclear components such as chromatin and histones, and plays an essential role in innate immunity.
CRP levels can increase 100–1000 fold in response to injury, infection, or inflammation. It functions as an opsonin, an initiator of the classical complement pathway, and an activator of monocytes/macrophages. Elevated basal CRP levels are associated with increased risk of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
