This antibody recognizes the class III CD34 epitope resistant to neuraminidase, chymopapain, and glycoprotease.
Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on many stem cell populations. It serves as a stem cell marker, though its expression on human hematopoietic stem cells is reversible. CD34 may function as a surface receptor involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis, adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells.
CD34 expression likely indicates a specific developmental stage of hematopoietic cells with distinct adhesion and differentiation properties. It may act as an adhesion molecule, mediating stem cell attachment to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells, and could serve as a scaffold for glycan attachment, facilitating interactions with lectins on stromal or marrow cells. The intracellular domain of CD34 is phosphorylated by activated protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction.
Diseases associated with CD34 dysfunction include dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
