This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD36 (GPIIIb), an 85–113 kDa integral membrane glycoprotein expressed on platelets, macrophages, endothelial cells, early erythroid cells, and megakaryocytes.
Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays a role in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, and is involved in recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 also contributes to malaria pathogenesis and acts as a receptor for thrombospondin. Mutations in this gene cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
