Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 중추신경계의 아스트로사이트 및 특정 아스트로글리아 세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초 신경의 위성세포 및 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포 역시 GFAP을 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 아스트로사이트 세포의 마커로 널리 사용됩니다.
여러 유형의 뇌종양(아스트로사이트 유래)에서도 GFAP이 높게 발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정 중 아스트로사이트를 다른 신경교세포와 구분하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 중추신경계 질환)를 유발할 수 있으며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 다양한 이소폼이 생성됩니다.
