Product Specific Information

For reconstitution, add 100 µL of distilled water to achieve a final antibody concentration of approximately 1 mg/mL.
For conjugation experiments using this carrier-free antibody, perform an additional desalting step (recommended: Zeba Spin Desalting Columns, 7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).

Target Information

Tau (MAPT) is a neuronal microtubule-associated protein primarily located on axons. It promotes tubulin polymerization and stabilizes microtubules.

  • The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules, while the N-terminus associates with neural plasma membrane components, functioning as a linker between both.
  • Tau localization determines axonal polarity in neurons.
  • Short isoforms contribute to cytoskeletal plasticity, while longer isoforms aid stabilization.
  • Hyperphosphorylated Tau forms paired helical filaments (PHF), the major component of neurofibrillary lesions in Alzheimer’s disease brain.
  • Hyperphosphorylation disrupts microtubule binding, leading to neuronal degeneration.
  • Kinases involved include GSK-3β, PKA, CDK5, and casein kinase II.
  • Abnormal Tau phosphorylation is also observed in Pick’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, corticobasal degeneration, and progressive supranuclear palsy.
