Product Specific Information
The HIP8 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD41 molecule (integrin alpha IIb, platelet GPIIb). CD41 associates with integrin beta3 (CD61) and is expressed by megakaryocytes and platelets. The CD41/CD61 complex serves as a receptor for fibronectin, fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor, vitronectin, and thrombospondin, mediating platelet aggregation. HIP8 blocks platelet aggregation.
Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated for flow cytometry of human platelets; 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test.
A test is defined as the antibody amount that stains a cell sample in 100 µL volume. Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information
CD41 (platelet glycoprotein IIb, ITGA2B) consists of two subunits (120 kDa α and 23 kDa β) that interact with CD61 in the presence of calcium to form a functional adhesive protein receptor. CD41 mediates platelet aggregation and binds von Willebrand factor, fibrinogen, fibronectin, and vitronectin upon vascular injury. It is mainly expressed in megakaryocyte-platelet lineage and appears during early hematopoietic differentiation.
Diseases associated with CD41 dysfunction include Glanzmann Thrombasthenia and Platelet type-16 bleeding disorder.
