Description:
The HIP1 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD42b molecule, a 135 kDa transmembrane protein also known as platelet gpIb.

Applications Reported:
This HIP1 antibody has been reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of human platelets.
Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.5 µg) per test (defined as staining a sample in 100 µL volume).
Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test (empirical determination required).

Target Information

CD42b is a platelet activation marker involved in coagulation and platelet aggregation. It interacts with extracellular matrix and adhesion molecules, and its expression is regulated by VEGF and PDGF.
CD42b forms part of the GPIb-IX-V receptor complex, essential for platelet-rich thrombus formation by binding to von Willebrand factor (VWF) at vascular injury sites. It also binds thrombin, coagulation factors XI/XII, high molecular weight kininogen, TSP-1, integrin Mac-1, and P-selectin.
The extracellular domain contributes to metastasis. CD42b is expressed on platelets and megakaryocytes in bone marrow. Mutations and polymorphisms in CD42b are associated with Bernard-Soulier syndrome and platelet-type von Willebrand disease.
