Target Information
Ubiquitination requires a ubiquitin-activating enzyme, a ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme, and usually a substrate-specific ubiquitin-protein ligase. Multiubiquitination requires a fourth factor that binds to ubiquitin moieties of preformed conjugates and catalyzes ubiquitin chain assembly. Human protein KIAA0126, with 1,073 amino acid residues, belongs to the ubiquitination conjugation factor E4 family. In yeast, E4 activity is associated with cell survival under stress, suggesting that eukaryotes utilize E4-dependent proteolysis pathways for multiple cellular functions.
