Product Specific Information

This ICACLS monoclonal antibody reacts with human, mouse, and rat glucagon.
Glucagon is a peptide hormone secreted by pancreatic alpha cells within the islets of Langerhans. It acts as an antagonist to insulin, maintaining blood glucose homeostasis through glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis in the liver.
Secretion is stimulated by hypoglycemia, epinephrine, acetylcholine, and cholecystokinin, and inhibited by insulin and somatostatin. Elevated glucagon levels are associated with pancreatic tumors.

Applications Reported:
Suitable for immunohistochemical staining, including formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections.

Applications Tested:
Validated for IHC of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human tissue using low pH antigen retrieval. Recommended usage ≤0.1 µg/mL, with careful titration for optimal assay performance.

Purity: Greater than 90%, determined by SDS-PAGE.
Aggregation: Less than 10%, determined by HPLC.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.


Target Information

Glucagon is a 29-residue polypeptide hormone (MW 3482) produced in the pancreas.
Enteroglucagon (oxyntomodulin), produced in the intestinal mucosa, extends the glucagon sequence by 8 residues at the C-terminus.
Biological activities include glycogenolysis, lipolysis, gluconeogenesis, and ketogenesis—antagonistic to insulin action, leading to increased blood glucose levels.
Pancreatic glucagon is localized in alpha cells (15–20% of islet cells), primarily at the islet periphery.
Pathological relevance is linked to glucagon-secreting tumors (glucagonomas).
Glucagon-specific antibodies serve as cell and tumor markers for immunohistochemical and analytical applications.
