Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody 4A7 recognizes human, mouse, rabbit, and hamster lamin A/C.
Lamins are nuclear intermediate filament proteins that provide structural support for the nuclear envelope, maintain cell morphology, and protect the nucleus from mechanical, thermal, and oxidative stress.
They are also involved in nuclear assembly, chromatin organization, DNA replication, RNA transcription, cell signaling, and apoptosis.

Lamin C is a splice variant of Lamin A, and both are A-type lamins essential for skeletal and cardiac development and function.
Defects in A-type lamins are associated with cardiomyopathy, muscular dystrophy, peripheral neuropathy, lipodystrophy, restrictive dermopathy, and progeroid disorders.

This 4A7 antibody has been tested by immunocytochemistry of methanol-fixed and permeabilized cells and can be used at ≤10 µg/mL.
It is recommended to titrate the antibody for optimal performance in the desired assay.

Target Information

Lamins are intermediate filament proteins forming a matrix on the inner surface of the nuclear envelope.
They exist in three forms (A, B, and C) and are found in many cell types.
Lamins A and C are alternatively spliced products of the LMNA gene, which is linked to various disorders including:

  • Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy
  • Dunnigan-type familial partial lipodystrophy (FPLD)
  • Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD1B)
  • Dilated cardiomyopathy (CMD1A)
  • Axonal neuropathy (Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease; CMT2B1)
  • Mandibuloacral dysplasia (MAD)
