Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes human CD59, a GPI-anchored cell surface protein that regulates complement-mediated cell lysis and participates in lymphocyte signal transduction.

Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC). It prevents complement-mediated damage to autologous cells by binding complement components C8 and/or C9, inhibiting C9 polymerization and pore formation. CD59 also functions as a low-affinity ligand for CD2, contributing to T-cell costimulation and signal transduction. Mutations in CD59 can cause CD59 deficiency, associated with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
