Specificity:
This antibody recognizes CD43, a predominant cell surface sialoprotein of leukocytes that regulates multiple T-cell functions including activation, proliferation, differentiation, trafficking, and migration.

Target Information

CD43 (leukosialin, sialophorin) is a transmembrane mucin-like protein with high negative charge, expressed on the surface of most hematopoietic cells. It contributes to a repulsive barrier that interferes with cellular adhesion but can also promote leukocyte aggregation. Through interactions with actin-binding proteins ezrin and moesin, CD43 regulates T-cell morphology and cell-cell interactions during lymphocyte traffic. CD43 signaling enhances and counteracts LFA-1 adhesiveness depending on context. Its expression can induce tumor suppressor p53 but, in the absence of p53 or ARF, promotes tumor proliferation. CD43 is thus an important modulator of leukocyte functions. Diseases associated with CD43 dysfunction include Wiscott-Aldrich Syndrome and Adenoid Basal Cell Carcinoma.
