Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)는 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocytes) 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 ganglia 위성세포와 비수초형 Schwann 세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포(neural stem cells)에서도 GFAP이 강하게 발현됩니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 마커로 유용하며, astrocytic 세포에서 유래된 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP이 많이 발현됩니다. GFAP은 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정에서 astrocytes와 다른 glial 세포를 구분하는 마커로 사용됩니다.
GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 희귀한 astrocyte 관련 질환인 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사체 변형이 존재합니다.
