Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포 및 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다.
GFAP는 신경줄기세포에서도 높은 발현을 보이며, 성상세포를 다른 교세포로부터 구분하는 마커로 널리 사용됩니다.
여러 종류의 뇌종양(특히 성상세포 유래 종양)에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다.
이 단백질은 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다.
GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease라는 희귀한 중추신경계 질환을 유발할 수 있으며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 다양한 이소폼을 생성합니다.
