Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열의 구성원으로, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포 및 특정 astroglia에서 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포는 GFAP를 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 성상세포를 식별하는 데 유용한 마커로 사용됩니다.
다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타나며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 중 성상세포와 다른 교세포를 구분하는 마커로 사용되며, GFAP 유전자 변이는 알렉산더병(Alexander disease)을 유발합니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 이형 단백질이 생성됩니다.
